Suggestions for delivering Values enquiry material
Values Enquiry Pause approach to delivery is not intended to replace the statutory RE units, but to provide ‘space’ to enhance and deepen pupils’ understanding. Wintershall Education supports schools in delivering their own ‘Virtues Enquiry through Drama’ Days using the online teaching and learning material and Wintershall resources linked to RE units, school virtues or Character Education. The resource materials are detailed to enable all staff, including non-specialists to deliver high quality teaching, learning and reflection either as a Values or RE Pause day or flexibly as a series of individual lessons with a linked values assembly.
Investing time in planning and delivering a ‘Pause’ Day is worthwhile for staff and pupils, offering opportunities to explore new resources and themes in depth, skill-building, and deepening knowledge and understanding. It also enables a school to fulfil their % of the statutory requirement for RE teaching and learning.
The learning activities are divided into 6 clear sessions, which can be in one day, or spread across a number of weeks, culminating in an Values Enquiry assembly.
Session 1– INSPIRE Concept Cracking
Session 2 – EXPLORE Humility in Daily Life
Session 3 – ENQUIRE Biblical Text and Interpretation
Session 4– RESPOND Biblical Drama Workshop
Session 5 – REFLECT Together
Session 6 – ASSEMBLY Outline
A Virtues Enquiry Assembly led by pupils is suggested as a way of sharing the learning experience with the whole school to sharpen virtues literacy and enrich school ethos. The outcomes from each Virtues Enquiry learning activity are designed to be used as part of the sharing assembly. See Assembly outline included in this material.
