With the introduction of a schools performance in 2019, we welcomed groups from Surrey and the South East for our Nativity play. Some brought their School council members, or a KS2 year group, and other whole school groups came for this really special end of term treat. 180 pupils came to our pre-performance workshops, for a sneaky peak behind the scenes before the show began.
Wise words of feedback from our school groups:
Even though I had to walk up steep bumpy hills, I realised it was worth it. As soon as the show started, I felt like I was in a whole new world, it was absolutely magical.
All of us now know the story a lot more clearly and we would pay to watch it a million more times.
Please don’t tell Legoland but this has been my favourite school trip so far!

Our Education Team had an incredibly busy week hosting schools at this year’s Life Of Christ. With nearly 4000 children attending, from a huge variety of schools, including Primary, Secondary, Catholic, Anglican, Community Schools, Steiner, Independent prep and senior schools, we were honoured to welcome you all to the performances. It is amazing to see how far some groups travelled to get to Wintershall. Some had rain, others had bright sunshine, but whatever the weather, all groups enjoyed this highly immersive theatre experience, bringing scripture to life in a new way. Here is some of our feedback:
The realism and authenticity of the drama brought the story of Jesus to life
We absolutely loved the day. It was an extremely well organised and polished performance. From the moment we arrived we felt cared for and looked after.
Having seen the play, with the current year 5, I am looking forward to using the production images in my year 6 RE lessons next year. Such a valuable learning experience. Unforgettable.
We liked being in the middle of the action when the actors came into the audience
Children could recognise some of the stories they know and have learned about. They enjoyed the humour and the real humanity of all the characters. Some told their parents about the performance in such detail, the parents were amazed how much impact it had on them
Another amazing year at Wintershall for us – thank you especially to the education team for making our visit so smooth and worry-free – you are incredible! We always feel very supported and able to ask questions. Look forward to next year!

Too far away or don’t fancy the long coach journey? Come and stay at Wintershall!
In 2020, Wintershall are offering the opportunity to camp onsite during the Life of Christ. Meet the shepherds around the bonfire, feed the animals before they go onstage and get a sneaky peak behind the scenes before the show begins. A unique and unforgettable residential trip. It has been fantastic to welcome schools to our new Easter and Lent workshops over the past month. These school trips encourage pupils to explore and enquire further into the ‘Mystery of Easter’ using a variety of creative and immersive activities, in the beautiful surroundings of the Wintershall Estate. All visits are tailored to a school’s individual needs and requirements. Find out more and book for next year here
It was a wonderful workshop and Lucy ensured that it linked well with what we wanted to achieve.
All pupils and accompanying including my HT enjoyed the workshops. We felt very touched by being able to be part of this wonderful workshop. Thank you everyone at Wintershall for sharing this opportunity with us. One of the Year 6’s said that it was the best workshop ever and they now have a much better understanding of the Stations of the Cross and most importantly of how Jesus would have felt.
“I can see so far”, said one young boy in amazement, as he got off the coach after the long journey from central London. He, like many of our school groups, expressed such wonder and disbelief at the beauty and the space here at Wintershall.
Nearly 3000 children joined us for The Life of Christ this June. Here is what some of them had to say about the experience:
“The story came out of the book and we realised this was more than words… it was someone’s life”
“I liked seeing the stories I had learnt from the Bible in real life”
“I knew the story of Jesus already, but watching the play really helped me get to know it more and find out details I didn’t know before”
“It really helped me to put together what I didn’t get before.”
“I loved the dynamics of the cast, they appeared out of nowhere – in front, behind you, in the crowd…. And things like the man jumping in the lake and the children running away from the soldiers – very effective”
“I got to be involved in the crucifixion part. I sat with Jesus’ friends when he was on the cross..on the stage!”
“I didn’t know that sometimes Jesus’ friends were grumpy like Peter..or maybe they were scared?”
“It is way better than a teacher reading it to us from a book!
THANK YOU to you all for your wonderful feedback. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
